Who is the Math Confidence Coach? Learn about my background in education and some fun facts about me!

Transcript: Hi, my name is Renée and I’m the Math Confidence Coach. I have a strong passion for math and teaching. Today, I’m going to tell you a little about myself. I have an elementary education degree with an emphasis in math from Murray State University, along with classes toward my Master’s Degree and classes toward my middle school math teaching certificate. I have taught in the public school system. 

Beyond teaching in the classroom, I’ve had the privilege to tutor students ages from 4 all the way to the college level. I have had the privilege to teach students in 36 countries. Math is a universal language. It does not matter what their native language is (all of my students in the different countries obviously did understand how to speak English, but math being a universal language allowed me to continue spreading my love for math and building that confidence.

In 2013, I made the decision to homeschool my daughter. I’ve had the amazing journey and adventure to be right by her side throughout her learning and from the very beginning. It’s been wonderful.

In 2017, I made a bold decision to begin teaching online. It’s a decision that I ABSOLUTELY fell in love with and didn’t realize how much I was going to enjoy it, but it did. It didn’t take long for me to feel completely comfortable in front of the camera teaching like I normally would to a whole class, but instead, I was able to work with students one-on-one; just like with my tutoring.  

Besides teaching and my math passion, I am known by many as the Turtle Lady. I LOVE sea turtles and being able to protect them as well as any volunteering that I am able to do in regards to sea turtles and marine life. I have 6 turtles that I have rescued. There are four red-eared sliders and two African side necks. I have two cats, I should say my daughter has two cats. We have a French bulldog and a scorpion. So we are at our limit for animals in our home. 

I enjoy spending time outdoors. I love making memories with my family doing many different things, exploring new places, or just relaxing and spending time together at home. We love to play games also. I also enjoy reading – the TRUE, TRUE thing that I do every day for about 30 minutes, at least, every day. I might be reading a math book, learning more about the history of math or of different mathematicians. 

I also have a passion for learning. I discovered a few years ago my passion for educational neuroscience.

I wanted to share a little bit about myself today and I want you to look forward to videos from me about homeschooling, math, teaching, confidence, and all kinds of fun things. I love sharing and speaking with people about the different passions I have and things I am learning and being able to learn from you as well.
